Summer in the garden, what a joy!

Summer is the season for relaxing in the garden, savoring fragrances and scents that float in the air, and enjoying the beauty of the various plants and flowers at their peak, in an explosion of shapes and colors....
Synonymous with vacation, repose, and long chairs...
But not for the gardener!
It’s true it’s not the time of the year for planting but between mowing the lawn, removing withering flowers, weeding and trimming the bushes he won’t be lacking work. August and September are beyond a doubt the months during which gardeners are most rewarded: Rose bushes, hedges, climbing plants... everything is flowering to their greatest pleasure. However gardeners know that as soon as the end of July they can start preparing for their autumn garden.

Summer is also ideal for the reproduction of plants, whether through sowing, layering, cutting, or dividing.

One should remember to harvest the grains of faded flowers and cut as many plants as they have time for, such as pink bay trees. At this time plants respond well to such treatments.
Summer heat is also suitable for planting the bulbs of autumnal flowers or annual flowers.
Continue skinning the earth to ventilate it and facilitate the penetration of water. In august you should keep weeding, eliminating faded flowers but mostly you should water all your plants generously.
Now’s also the time to place your stakes, for consolidating dahlias, asters, chrysanthemums, and generally any hardy perennials that have reached more than 60 or 70 cm in height.

The glorious lily.
Imagine an African creeper which would, during the entire summer, carry beautiful red and gold lilies.

This plant exists and is called Gloriosa Rotschildiana. Native of South Africa it is the national flower of Zimbabwe. This rapid growth vine can reach up to 8m high on an enclosure or a lattice and grow in a pot both inside and outside as a garden or interior plant. Its flowers are exotic and glowing from June to September. Their petals are a shade of purple red bordered by yellow. They could almost look like they are on fire. Their capacity to maintain their shape over a long period of time makes them ideal for floral arrangements.
It’s no surprise Gloriosa is cultivated for the trade of cut flowers.
